My art explores the intricacies of identity and how external forces shape our psyche as individuals and as a collective. The work deconstructs and challenges societal and cultural definitions such as race, gender, religion, etc. My art asks: Who are we without the labels? What does it really mean to be human?
Refuge is a series of digital artworks which subvert and deconstruct slave ship diagrams. My ancestors are defined solely by the circumstance of enslavement. Trauma is not a legacy. My art provides an opportunity to heal the past by celebrating the beauty and immense humanity of those who came before me.
