Last month, CALYX Journal hit a major milestone that we’ve been working toward for years: we now have subscribers in all 50 states! This achievement became official in December 2024, when we welcomed readers from Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma—the final states to join our community of supporters.

Reaching every corner of the country means so much to us. It’s not just about numbers—it’s about connecting with readers who believe in the power of feminist literature to inspire, challenge, and transform. Having CALYX in homes across all 50 states shows how far our mission has come since 1976, when we started as a tiny but determined feminist literary press. Over the years, we’ve published the voices of over 4,000 women writers and artists, many of whom have gone on to achieve international acclaim. Names like Julia Alvarez, Judith Barrington, Natalie Golberg, Barbara Kingsolver, and Sharon Olds, Chitra Divakaruni, Marilyn Hacker, Jane Hirshfield, and many others first graced the pages of CALYX Journal, and we’re so proud to have played a part in their literary journeys.

This milestone didn’t happen by accident. Throughout 2024, we’ve been working hard to expand our reach and connect with new readers. From hosting events and participating in book festivals to running our “Put CALYX on the Map” campaign, we’ve been determined to spread the word about what makes this journal so special. And it’s paying off!

As we look ahead to our 50th anniversary in 2026, this accomplishment feels like the perfect way to kick off our celebrations. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much more we still want to do. Feminist literature has never been more important, and we’re thrilled to know that readers in every state are part of this journey with us.

If you’re not already a subscriber, now is a great time to join! Let’s keep growing this amazing community together.
